Accounts and Sign In

Zoom Accounts

There is no such thing as a Participant account. You simply sign in to your existing Zoom account. If you do not have an account you can create one from Zoom’s website.

Signing in is not required to use Participant, unless your organization requires that only authenticated users join your meetings.

Sign In and Sign Out

From the Participant home screen tap Sign In. Enter your email address and password and tap Sign In. You will remain signed in for future sessions. To sign out, tap your email address from the home screen and select Sign Out.

Join a Meeting

Join a meeting from the Participant home screen by typing in the meeting ID and then entering the meeting passcode when prompted. Alternatively, you can paste a meeting URL into the meeting ID field and you will automatically be joined.

Participant will use the participant name that you have configured under Settings ➔ Name. If you join a meeting by pasting a URL, the Zoom SDK automatically prompts for a user name the first time. If you entered something different than what is configured in Settings, the app will attempt to change your name back once you are in the meeting.

Whenever you successfully join a meeting, the ID and passcode are stored securely in the system Keychain and the meeting information is added to your Recent Meetings list. If you need to join that meeting again in the future you can simply tap it from the Recent Meetings list and you will instantly be joined without having to enter the meeting information.

Meeting Controls

Participant will keep meeting controls on-screen at all times while the app.

  • You can toggle the microphone, camera, and raised hand from the bottom bar.
  • Tap Leave at any time to leave the meeting.
  • Toggle between active speaker and gallery view by switching the view option in the top bar.
  • User the menu in the top-right to access advanced features like reactions, chat, and settings.

Chat

Begin a Chat

You can initiate a chat by tapping Chat from the menu. From the Chat screen how you start a chat depends on if you are a Participant Pro user or not.

Unified

Free users get a unified chat experience, similar to the Zoom app. All messages, whether direct or to everyone, are displayed in a single chronological list.

To send a chat tap the Send To button and select the recipient (a particular user or everyone). Type your message and tap the Send button.

To reply directly to someone tap on their avatar to automatically select them as the recipient.

Threaded Chat

Participant Pro users have threaded chat. The Everyone chat will always be the first chat in the list. All other threads are sorted so that the latest messages are at the top. If a thread has new messages there will be an indicator of how many unread messages are waiting for you.

To begin a new chat tap the Compose button and then select a recipient. A new thread will be opened where you can type your message and tap Send.

Notifications

If you allow Participant to send notifications you will receive notifications for in-meeting chat, regardless of whether the app is in the foreground or the background. Tap the notification to navigate directly to that thread. Or pull down on the notification and tap Reply to respond directly from the notification.

Data Saver Mode

Enable Data Saver Mode on a bad connection or on cellular to turn off your camera and stop streaming videos. This will use approximately 60-95% less data depending on the number of participants in your meeting while still allowing you to use the rest of the app’s features like mic, raised hand, and chat.
